Vyra, Mistress of Blood - Patreon Vote Winner
Here is the previous month's Patreon vote winner. If she looks familiar to you, you aren't wrong, because she was in one of my scribbles a few months ago :) She was really just a random character I came up on the fly just to do some practice with a ball pen (oh, and did I mention she started as a goblin but turned into a bat during the process :D), but as the days passed, it kinda got out of hand :D I couldn't get her out of my head, and I just had to make more pictures with her. She even got a name :) And it seems my supporters liked her just as much as I did. So much so, she even popped up in the previous Q&A before I could even figure out her colours for this picture :D So say hello to our new albino vampire shaman, Vyra! I'm sure you'll see her again in the future ;)

Sometimes you try to create a character and it's like pulling teeth to figure out what they look like.
Sometimes you scratch out a doodle and it proceeds to practically grab your hand and make you draw it to completion, then it glares at you till you start working on their history and alternate outfits.
Vyra seems like the latter.

Hmm, wow. Although it's nice to see Vyra in all her glory, I must say that this is awesome, (kinda) adorable, interesting, (kinda) lovely and (kinda?) frightening. In addition, not only that's a good angle, a nice action pose and a nice side front view on Vyra's part, but she still looks (kinda) THICC, firm, (kinda) cute, fluffy, sexy, pretty, exotic, toned, (kinda) elegant, (kinda) scary, (kinda) stunning and (very) cool too; good work by the way. <3
The whole shamanic necromancy thing is a great concept. Replace the traditional "raising an army of the undead to conquer blah blah whatever" with "invoking the spirits of the ancestors to aid their people" and you've got roughly the same power set but a vastly different flavor of character.
Hi! I love your art style and read your comics for a while now. Anthropomorphic characters are really hard to pull off but you've been doing great so far.
This, however will bother me a bit because I studied bats at the uni and even helped in some research. This is not how bat's hand works :) The wing membrane is actually stretched between elongated fingers so in your art Vyra has eight fingers, three of which are sticking from the wrist at the right angle to the rest :)
True, making functional hands for a bat character is no small task. Stan Sakai was able to pull it off with Komori ninja in Usagi Yojimbo comics but his art style is more stylized so he was able to hide the seams better ;)
I'm not suggesting you change your design on account of one bat nerd on the other side of the world but you might keep that bit of info in mind and maybe something interesting will come out of it ;)

I understand that you are a bat nerd, and thank you for sharing your opinion!
I don't know bats as well as you do, but I've observed their wings quite well while looking at pictures of them for reference, and I drew Vyra's wings anatomically incorrectly on purpose. (To me, this discussion has similarities with the „reptiles don’t have breasts because they're not mammals”, but I do have female snake characters with breasts.)
I've loved coming up with and drawing characters for as long as I can remember, and I'm constantly consuming media like that. In my experience so far, the functionality of a character in its own world is more important than making something anatomically correct. The way Vyra behaves and the way she moves and interacts with her surroundings require, for me at least, the five fingers that humans are used to. But I am also very inclined to push things in a more human direction. For me, some things would look too animalistic for certain things, stories, and settings. There are exceptions when I'm more faithful to anatomy, because I do like to study anatomy in both humans and animals. But at the end of the day, my imagination is really „cartoonish”.
I hope this makes it easier to understand why I decided to do this with Vyra's wing, and thank you for your input. I welcome every critique, and if I can, I'll try my best to share my thoughts :)
