The reason I don't recommend this manga, despite its popularity and widespread praise, is because of how it handles the topic of rape. That certainly was a way to spend time. The tldr is there's so much yuri out there. There's no reason to read a bunch of almost okay vignettes unless that's specifically your thing.

Plot: The longest story was six pages. This is more a collection of premises than anything else.

Art: Varies, as this is a collection of short stories. Having said that, nothing stood out.

Chemistry: If you like a bunch of premises, maybe you can get into the chemistry here. I didn't feel anything from any of the protagonists.

I fucking love this stupid manga.

I think it probably gets a lot of bad rep for having annoying characters but I think their annoyingness is cancelled out by how realistically the characters interact with each-other and the story progresses.

I don't like this super fan-servicy style of manga but this one has been a big exception for me because of how well the humour is written and how little the fan service moments detract from the comedy and meat of the story, which is a relatively simple, but still enjoyable romance between a girl and her childhood friend.

When it comes to reading web novels (manhwa/manhua), I always lower my expectations with this medium with the notion of either the story would be generic and incoherent, the artstyle/visuals would be just soulless vectors colors filled in, the plot would be nonsensical, the details are shallow, or the dialogue would be shitty and overly-edgy. This is one of those many web novels where you could only enjoy this if you turned your brain off.

- The plot seemed good at first glance. It's your typical "zero to hero" and "game system" web novel centralized around this boy being bullied by gang members in a school ... setting.
- It seems to be able to resonate with a couple of Koreans (since the target audience experiences a lot of bullying) while making it a bit enjoyable to see on how MC pushes through with every antagonist.
- The generic "game system" gimmick is a bit refreshing to see since this time, it makes use of cards instead. Of course they still give stat boosts, winning hands, and even certain martial arts techniques that I didn't even know existed. The gamified stats were of course generic as well but they used different appraisal values which is something given it's in a high school gang setting.
- The artstyle and visuals are your typical web novel digitally made graphics that feels uninspired and generic.
- The story basically progressed everytime a new school gang within their region discovers who MC is, and it seems in this worldbuilding, students from every school just loiter around, get hired to be gang members, and occupy schools on repeat throughout the web novel
- The premise wasn't really executed pretty well and led me to a deduct a single point given how unrealistic and stupid the plot looks (highschoolers that look like adults "invading" schools used as gang territory while those same teenagers try to kill each other for "occupying" business or loitering points like it's WW2)
- A lot of "Why didn't they just do this?" moments and plot holes in the story. Basically a lot of unnecessary and roundabout stuff just to develop the plot the author just seems to ignore.
- The last war arc was somehow entertaining given the twist or the revelations on the who's and why's (won't spoil this one)

Overall, this web novel was consistent enough to be able to create a complete story about Korean high school gangs and MC's character development which deserves an additional point. The only major turn off that doesn't let it get rated higher by me is the fact that the premise is stupid and unrealistic since they're using the "high schoolers in the real world" setting.

Given that this genre or the medium itself is usually trash, this is a cut above the rest or the cream of the crop if you love web novel slop while thirsting all over the male characters. If it was written better, it could have been a "must recommend".

Hakutaku commits the cardinal sin of...just being an incredibly boring manga.

Hakutaku is about a team of incredibly young students making video games together. These students have varying levels of knowledge in making games to begin with, but somehow they manage to create games far beyond what they realistically should've been able to make with the time period and knowledge they were allotted in each circumstance. This is the first huge problem with Hakutaku: suspension of disbelief is extremely hard to pull off when your work is not entertaining. It's okay to do things that are unrealistic in a work, even in a more realistic setting, ... but if there is nothing to pull the reader in, then their suspension of disbelief is not going to kick in and the work's logistical problems are going to be in the center stage, and that's exactly what happens here. It does not help that the story has no real goal or aim to it, making the characters just kind of float around and make random games and further preventing the reader from making an emotional connection to the story.

The characters are generally one-note with a singular personality trait given to them if they're lucky. If they're not, they just kind of exist in panels to advance the story and do nothing else to make the reader care about them as characters. The main character is a pushover who seems to get weird, creepy positive feelings from people enjoying his games. The female lead is pushy and generally rude but somehow has way too many industry connections and knowledge despite just being an ordinary gamer who was kind of intense. From there everything else just doesn't matter, and once you've seen the main character and the female lead interact once, you know how all of their future interactions are going to play out, because neither of them develop as characters. I guess they're too busy developing games.

Despite being a manga about game dev, the manga frequently fails to go into detail about the actual necessities of game dev and to a degree seems to be actively avoiding going into any serious detail and instead just nudging things along to show the next bootleg of a popular game that the cast has made. Because of this, Hakutaku feels lazy and as though it isn't particularly invested into its own subject matter. The main character just kind of goes, "Oh, can we make this?" The other characters look at him like he's a genius, maybe a few other panels showing them poking the game, then oh it's done. Many things feel like they are given to the characters on a silver platter.

There are certainly comparisons to be made between this and Bakuman in terms of the kind of tone they were trying to aim for, but that would honestly be a disgrace to Bakuman. I would highly recommend just checking that manga out instead of this.

This is a disgusting, disturbing, toxic yuri manga and isn't for someone who is suffering from an abusive relationship.
Although I loved it, I like how raw it is. This manga doesn't pull any punches and makes you feel a rollercoaster of emotions. It's short and sweet, good for something to quickly pick up, but it will stick with you (for better or worse lol)
I loved the ending; it was so good, and I felt that it was the perfect choice.
The art is good too, I love the style, and the anatomy looks great!

Another great managa by Manio, the managka behind Kitanai Kimi ga Ichiban Kawaii.
This manga follows two characters who embody different attachment styles: anxious, Nana Mutsurugi, and avoidant, Tsukasa. Aishita Bun dake Aishite Hoshii! is short and sweet. It doesn't drag on for too long and has a satisfying ending. I like how well the psychological aspect is handled, I find it to be pretty realistic.
It's not amazing, but it's very entertaining and fun.
The art is really nice too, you can tell that the mangaka has been drawing for a long time. I find that the style is cute too, and fits well with that ...

Yeah, it's a bafflingly terrible ending, but I don't think the rest was perfect either.

I'm glad the many manga I started following in my love-starved times are ending. It began with the normal guy, being coupled with somebody excessively opposite to them. The trope, of course. Awesome, wholesome, interesting, coming from the development of cosplay and what it entails. How our hobbies define us in front of the people around us. The crunch, balancing life with hobbies, and how jealousy comes from limelights you participated in, but can't prove you did without self-imposed selfishness. It started to become mature, true to life, and ... true to the things we wish to be recognized in.

The romance worked, as both had a human chemistry which doesn't feel natural in many other manga, or anime for that matter. Away from forced conventions, this one had two people growing together while achieving dreams for one another.

Gojou became more than just the normal guy, he had goals, just like Marin, our co-protagonist. Both became a unit due to their goals, but as they differed, and met new people, life shaped who they were, and what they should focus in. Things got murky, and differences arrive. As both misunderstand, not their positive feelings, but the negative ones, something which doesn't usually happen. Both go through hardships which they wish not share with each other, and damn, it was becoming GOOD. And right as it picked up, it couldn't muster the great story on the other side, but a consistent meandering.

The story takes a pause, it explores other characters, go other places. People we don't care for, people who don't advance the story. It wasn't a side-story, but part of the main one, and as the monthly schedule went on, of course the audience wants the story to advance. Why should we wait if it doesn't lead anywhere? I held onto hope, the story could only get better with the current ideas, and there was some good conflict. The cousin arc, the final cosplay arc, it set up incredible new ideas. The story felt like it opened itself to a new, boundless potential. It could finally be a competitive, cosplay manga, filled with new conflicts.

The story gets so much better after, since the manga does what all romance manga strive to achieve, with many open routes to keep taking. It couldn't end there, it can't. There's so much in there.

It did. It fast-forwarded to the future, pretending all which was opened didn't exist. Oh… right, okay. Awesome. The potential, lost, plot lines, lost, redeemable characters, lost. The lesson in understanding, and tolerance, hobbies, and uniqueness in people. Everything, into dust.

I won't try to hammer and say the author should've ended it better. They had health issues, and had to cancel it. I'm judging the manga based on the quality of it, not on whatever happened to the author. The beginning was good, it got pretty bad, then it got AMAZING, pretty bad again, AWESOME, then… terrible ending. As it is, can't give it more than a 6.

What was good, was incredible, what was bad, bored me to death. A bunch that I love, a bit which I hate. It all boils down to it being a good manga, with big waves which change its quality. At least the art was great, and the feelings conveyed in expression, and the reactions of the characters were awesome.

6/10. Solid. I recommend it, at least for those who appreciate the trip, instead of the destination. Binging this would be way better than my monthly times with it.

The reason why I'm making this review is because I love this manga and I don't want people to go through what I did, so read this attentively.

First, I would like to say that this manga is not for "anime-manga nerds" only. I know plenty of people who like football and/or play football (and I don't mean with their friends, I mean fr), who like this manga, as much as people who don't. I think the issue is that many people took what Ego said too literally and weren't bothered to see how what the manga would progress, so they missed out on what the ... manga can actually offer. So please, give it a chance if you want to read it and don't stop just because of the first few chapters.

With this out of the way, I'd like to start talking now about the manga itself rather than the "drama"/claims that people make by only reading the start. Why's this manga good? The manga presents itself pretty well and the football matches are crazy good. It makes us readers feel like we are supporting a team and cheering on them. The first arcs are very interesting and different, the players clearly weren't ready for what came to them and it's cool to see how strategies and emotions they're going through. You feel the stakes and, honestly, even though some plays might be crazy, the manga can be pretty grounded.

The art is also a big complementary role to that and honestly it makes the goals pretty badass. I will talk about this later, as it'll become important, but as of now it's all happiness. The characters are also super enjoyable and honestly they're very diverse, I'm sure most people can find at least one character they like. What's neat is that they also don't feel closed in a box, even though some are stereotypes or have super defining characteristics, they're not limited by that and go through pretty good development.

I'd say that until around half of the manga, this was truly a 10. Maybe a bit over the half, I don't recall 100% which chapter specifically I started feeling like this manga was going downhill, but the arc that is around the middle of when I'm currently reviewing (ch. 150 should be around the middle) was probably one of the best things I've ever seen.

Now, the arc after the aforementioned one is the sole reason why my grade got this low and I love-hate the manga.

The first reason why I'd say it ruins the manga is the pacing. Even though the other arcs were shorter, they felt greatly paced and it was as if they had the perfect amount of seasoning. This one arc has basically the same amount of chapters as all of the other ones together. It's crazy how slow the pacing is and it's so bothersome. Every day I was wishing it would end.

The second reason I'd say this manga gets super bad is because the "weapons" (which is a concept of what the player excels at, explained at the very start) become crazy, it just doesn't become like Inazuma Eleven because it doesn't want to. It took out everything that was good on the matches, like the emotions, threats and stakes, and lost it.

The last reason is the art. The manga stopped flowing through matches properly and every chapter the author tries to make an "aura farming phonk edit" art on the very last page, so tiktok and youtube shorts kids and editors go full dopamine mode. It becomes obnoxious. That is not to say that there aren't moments deserving of it, it's just that every chapter is not worth of having a badass art.

It's completed at 49 chapters huh
This manga has been releasing so randomly and odd to where I have forgotten it's story every single time

While the art and ecchi factor is..barely acceptable, there really is no story at all. Across the dozens of chapters, minimal character development is left to rot by itself as there is no proper setting for growth. I mean I get there was a competition to become the Demon King, yet there was barely any focus on the main plot itself. You just get random events and miniature battles and conflicts which are very forgettable by all means.

26 translated chapters out as of 4/16/25, with I think around 30-40 untranslated chapters. I'll try not to spoil because it is genuinely great and a really fun read. I can't think of many flaws in the story, it's as if everything has already been planned out to keep everything consistent, and if it was, MASSIVE PLUS. I love when they do that, it usually means that the author is very passionate about their story.

The Characters:

They're all unique and fleshed out. They feel realistic and react realistically. There's only one person right now I can confidently say doesn't act realistically, and that's the ... dumbass. He is so unbelievably stupid it hurts. There's also the FMC. but that makes sense because she is inherently unnatural. The MC I found is pretty relatable and fun to watch. Even though he is put in a lot of pitiful situations in which you will almost certainly find depressing/messed up, you can't ever hate how his character acts. He's realistic, logical, smart, and most of all, relatable. He has some really serious depression and anxiety due to an incredibly bad home life and pretty vicious bullying in school, but he still acts within reason, and that's one of the reasons why I can't hate him. If there is one thing I absolutely hate, it's a poorly written character, and fortunately for me, all the characters are written well. Nanami my goat fr fr.

The Plot:

As far as the typical romance will go? This manga is far ahead of everything else. I have a habit of attracting peak plots to myself, and I can confidently say this plot is indeed peak. Basic premise is that "depressed guy on the verge of doing something very bad to himself meets his childhood friend, who was his lifeline, again, and this time she's here to make sure he is happy, with the use of some Return By Death level time rewinding." It's better than most romance plots, I've read a decent amount, and I'd say this definitely has the potential to be my top 3 favorite romances.

Recommendations:

"Can I Fall in Love with a Multiverse?"

9/10 Peak basic plot, awesome art, author is really good at expressions. A guy starts hanging out with his crush, they walk home together, boom, truck-kun boutta reap some lives, MC pushes FMC out of the way risking his own life, but someone pulls him out of the way, saving him, turns out it was FMC with short hair. Turns out Short Hair FMC is FMC from another timeline and was sent here. Does he choose long hair FMC or short hair FMC?

"Killer In Love"

8.2/10 Had a lot of potential, but I think it was rushed too much. Essentially about a guy who falls in love with a girl who has a habit of attracting stalkers, and she clings onto this man and grooms him into a seasoned killer. 8.2/10 because it had some REALLY peak art, basic plot was peak, but character progression/story progression was rushed.

Overall rating? 8.8/10 (rounded up) Straight peak, and I get the feeling that if we give the author more time to cook, it might have potential to be a 10/10.

I finished Oyasumi Punpun today and I can say without a doubt that it's a 10/10 manga. It took me about a week start to finish just because I couldn't put it down. The writing is incredible and very often did it elicit strong feelings out of me.

I'm pretty harsh when I rate things, even some of my favourite things are only a 9/10 because in order to be a 10 something has to change my perspective in life. I can confidently say that Oyasumi Punpun has done just that.

Highly, highly recommend reading, especially if you're neurodivergent or have personality/dissociative issues.

While The 100 Girlfriends is often praised for being a parody of the harem genre, I personally found it to be an incredibly overrated series that leans far too heavily on the very tropes it’s supposedly satirizing. The premise alone—a guy is fated to fall in love with 100 girls or they'll die—is absurd, and while that could’ve led to some clever meta-humor or commentary on the genre, the execution falls flat. It ends up feeling more like a flashy gimmick designed to get attention rather than a meaningful twist on romcom or harem conventions.

The tone of ... the show reeks of that “hyper-kawaii" weeb-bait aesthetic that reminds me of anime culture/fans in the 2017-COVID era: loud, overly sugary, and trying way too hard to be cute or quirky without much substance. It’s the kind of show to made to flood youtube feeds of "cute compilations" of anime, as well as get people to be like "___ best girl" "___ supremacy" and cringeworthy things like that.

While I get that the show is meant to be self-aware, that self-awareness doesn't necessarily excuse the lazy writing or recycled tropes. For example, one of the most braindead scenes happens in episode 2 alone: Karane (The first introduced love interest along with Hakari, and the show's poster tsundere) is blindfolded during a school test of courage, and a cat accidentally brushes against her inner thigh. She instantly assumes the protagonist, Rentarou, touched her and beats the hell out of him. It's not funny AT ALL. it’s a textbook misunderstanding trope used for cheap laughs and fanservice, and from that scene alone, I could tell the show would be hardcapped at a 6 at best.

Speaking of Karane: she's often hailed as a fan-favorite, but I just do not like her her. That might partially be due to my general dislike for tsundere characters, especially those who rely on violent slapstick and possess little emotional depth early on. I will admit, her backstory involving her tsundere family was genuinely funny and at least tried to add some character depth, and she can be cute at times when the show pretty much devolves into post-irony.

I also really disliked Hakari. She's the "flirty airhead" archetype, constantly trying to act seductive but with zero depth behind her behavior. Her one-note obsession with being lewd comes off as annoying rather than endearing, especially since Rentarou is too terrified or spineless to respond to any of the girls’ advances. (I fucking HATE hate these type of characters. Just wait until I get to you Rito.) It turns into a frustrating loop: the girls keep throwing themselves at him, Rentarou freaks out or shuts down, rinse and repeat. It’s hard to enjoy scenes that are meant to be romantic or sexy when the guy looks like he’s one sneeze away from having a panic attack.

Which brings me to another big issue: the dynamic between Rentarou and the girls. They’re constantly trying to get lewd with him, pushing him into sexually charged situations, while he’s too scared or flustered to do anything. This makes their interactions feel forced, repetitive, and weirdly one-sided. It’s hard to buy into any actual romantic development when everything is just lewd gags with zero intimacy or sincerity.

When it comes to the humor in general, I feel like the self-awareness just gets to a point of it trying too hard, and it honestly makes me start to see things from the perspective of my friend, who hates anime. It's just such awkward and "weeb 100" humor to me.

That being said, I won’t claim that the series is abysmal, It is decent by harem standards, and there were definitely moments that genuinely got a laugh out of me. I also appreciate how the protagonist Rentarou actually tries to be emotionally honest and open with the girls, which is refreshing for the genre. But beyond that, I couldn’t find much to hold onto. It felt like another cashgrab romcom with a "parody" label slapped on as a defense mechanism.

Recently started reading Bad Born Blood, this manhwa really got me hook. At first I thought it was just going to be another "follow your dream" story where the main character has an unyielding ambition, but then the story took a turn and the main character suddenly starts questioning everything he once held as truth.
